2013 Met Gala - "PUNK: Chaos to Couture"

It is the night of the year where A-listers come to make daring sartorial selections at the event. Unlike more mainstream event like Academy Award or Golden Globe, the annual Met Gala always came up with different themes for each year. Punk: Chaos to Couture is chosen to be this year's unique theme. "I think (punk) is so eclectic and so original and maybe it sort of represents what's very fearless about fashion," said Anna Wintour, who happens to be the Met Gala's chairman. Here are my version of best dressed of the night.

1. Sarah Jessica Parker

Hands down for this Sex and the City star, she has gone hard, wearing Giles Deacon dress, a gold and black Philip Treacy punk couture headpiece, Fred Leighton and Repossi jewelries, complete with a thigh-high tartan velvet boots. Now that's punk rock!

2. Blake Lively

Although the piece doesn't have much to do with the theme, but I think she looks absolutely gorgeous in those attire. The pale-green strapless Gucci frock featured a dramatic train skirt with layers of black organza adorned with silver and black feather motif embroidered details, gives a little touch of glamorous punk.

3. Nina Dobrev

The Vampire Diaries starlet looks amazing in her custom Monique Lhuillier ensemble. Instead of styling an ordinary gown, she rocked an outfit of tight black patterned pants matched perfectly with a black lace and leather bustier top. It was outrageous and definitely made the punks proud.

4. Rooney Mara

With her signature dark lips and edgy fashion, the theme of the ball was no doubt for Rooney. She dressed in Givenchy fall 2010 couture pieces, finished with the house's infamous shark tooth heel. It has been modified from the original version, Rooney's couture gown features an additional lace detailing on the shoulders which falls down the front of her zipper accented gown.

5. Anne Hathaway

She rocks the vintage Valentino vintage confection, also the temporary new blonde hair totally works on her. I almost didn't recognize her!

5. Cara Delevigne

Rebel princess Cara was totally into the concept, wearing a Burberry Prorsum dress with spikes. She pulled off punk perfection, she looks classy but her rings, necklace, piled up earrings, nails, hair and makeup were really punk-ish. GO CARA! Sienna Miller was also seen wearing Burberry creation but sure thing Cara is the winner.

6. Taylor Tomasi Hill

My all time favorite Taylor Tomasi Hill showed up in Thom Browne dress, the spikes on her shoulders are adorable.

7. Donatella Versace

She's the empress of Fashion and can do no wrong. She wore one of her creation to the annual event, with over the top accessories (see those spikes and studs!). She was 100% into the theme of the Gala yet stylish, flawless and glamorous. Praise the queen!

8. Doutzen Kroes

The Victoria Secret angel shows off her amazing gown by Theysken Theory, I just love the quilted leather dress with sheer tail long skirt falls on her.

Daylight pyjamas

It was all started by Marni for H&M, where fashionistas wore pyjamas out of the house as a trend. I wasn't sure about the price of it but I remember that it's not worth it to spend that amount of money on a piece of PJs, so I bought something else of the collection instead. Months have passed and the trend returns, Zara, the #1 runway copycat launched their version as a blazer. Again, I'm not willing to buy in that specific price (cus it's a PJs for God's sake!). Few weeks later, I finally found this perfect shades of burgundy PJs at forever21 for only about 40 bucks! yes that's the price of a PJs should be, lol.

For you who follow me on Instagram (@karinapricilla), I posted about this Save the sole thing few days back. I'm really glad that there's these kind of things that can protect my shoes, which I can stick it easily myself (for some shoes, I protect it with MasterFix's red sole, but unfortunately you can't stick it of your own, they have to do it for you). Trust me it works, other than saving the sole, it also makes the soles less slippery. Contact @save_the_sole on Instagram for details.

Snapback

IMG_5935edtd

There I go again, a month without an update. Blame it to my uni for giving only 2 classes a week, which probably the strongest reason why I became so lazy these days.

Anyway, designer parody has taken a great impact on fashion world lately. It's always been so cool when the industry can throw around creative jokes and come up with clever twists using wordplay to create some really awesome parody items such as T-shirts, snapbacks, etc.

This time, I got myself this 40oz's Givenchy inspired snapback. Well, not all people are into this parody trend. Some argue that these parodies infringe on copyrights, others turn their heads up and only have eyes for the luxury version, those latter folks need to stop taking themselves so seriously. But hello! Fashion is supposed to be fun, and for me, I personally think that whoever starts this trend is really d*mn creative and I love it. So, go get yourself some! :)

Spring 2013 Couture Favorite

eliesaab

It's no longer a secret that Elie Saab is every fashionista's favorite. The beadwork, of course, is his signature, this season made in shade-on-shade silvery and golden embroideries on lace and the beautiful tulles and silk. When it comes to Haute Couture, Saab has always been my top choice.

versace

Versace fashion show somehow always caught my attention in each different season. This time, with Donatella's futuristic style, managed to get attention with the mix of silver and gold embellishment. Each piece has its uniqueness but the short-in-front/long-in-back dress in neon chiffon and the Xena warrior dress amazed me the most.

valentino

Magical. One word that can express Valentino haute couture. Their embroidery and crystal beading is so finely build into the layers of tulle and chiffon that they become completely essential to the design. Valentino under Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli never fails to make people smile.

armaniprive

First thing that popped out in my mind when I look at this show in Instagram is that the cool edgy design of the runway! I wonder how many rehearsals it took to make everything goes perfectly. All the couture pieces got elements of Art Deco with rich color palettes such as reds and oranges. The huge balloon skirt somehow reminds me of Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex and the city 2.
